About Mike

Mike Colle immigrated to Canada from his native Italy at the age of five, and grew up in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood along College street. A proud Canadian - he has served as an elected representative for Eglinton-Lawrence both as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) and as a local City Councillor.

Prior to public service, Mike taught history and economics at Michael Power High school and St. Michael’s College School, where he coached football for 18 years.

Mike is a dedicated marathon runner with a personal best marathon time of 3:29, and continues to participate in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon annually. He and his wife, Sharon, are proud parents of four children and grandparents to eight grandchildren – as well as their dog Sunny.

 

As MPP and Councillor for Eglinton-Lawrence, Mike spearheaded a number of campaigns, such as:

  • Saving historic heritage sites like the Eglinton Grand Theatre, Postal Station K, and the Columbus Centre,

  • Introducing legislation for Red Light Cameras, 

  • Introducing legislation to designate May as Jewish Heritage Month in Ontario,

  • Introducing Bill 141, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness, Research, and Care – as well as protection for families,

  • Paving the way forward for new environmental protection in Ontario through the Oak Ridges Moraine Protection Act and the establishment of Ontario’s Greenbelt which protects over two million acres of farmland,

  • Fighting for businesses and residents affected by the unending construction of the long-awaited Eglinton Crosstown LRT,

  • Creating an Anti-Auto Theft Task Force to take stronger action against the rise in auto theft across the City,

  • Advocating for the Federal and Provincial governments to join the City of Toronto in combatting the plague of Auto Theft and Small Business Break-ins,

  • Successfully passing a unanimous motion in Council to enact Mobile Mental Health Crisis Response Teams across the City - 211,

  • Leading the way for the Revitalization and Community Building (including increased community safety measures) in Lawrence Heights,

  • Moving the unanimously-passed "Buy Canadian" motion to stand up against the American Tariffs.

As Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Toronto, he represents one of the fastest growing communities in Toronto and Canada, with over 120 major residential developments underway in Eglinton-Lawrence.

In the current term of City Council, Deputy Mayor Colle serves on:

  • The Executive Committee, 

  • Vice-Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee, 

  • As Mayor’s designate on the 2026 FIFA World Cup Executive Steering Committee,

  • and the North York Community Council
